National Center for Health Statistics
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/
Harvard Center for Risk Analysis
http://www.hcra.harvard.edu/

While not strictly speaking pro-gun organizations of course, their objective facts show that criminal use of firearms is not a leading cause of death. Heart disease, cancer, stroke and accidents are responsible for vastly more.

Anti-rights Sites

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence
The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence
http://www.bradycampaign.com/
The Legal Action Project of The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence
http://www.gunlawsuits.org/
STOPtheNRA.com
http://www.stopthenra.com/site/PageServer
NRAblacklist.com
http://www.nrablacklist.com/

Formerly known as Handgun Control, Inc. and the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence (HCI & CPHV) this major anti-rights organization is now known as: The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, presumably divided into educational and lobbying branches. Also includes The Legal Action Project of The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, which appears to be involved in anti-rights lawsuits.

Brady and MMM have spun of two incredibly stupid sites called STOPtheNRA.com and NRAblacklist.com. Both are accompanied by some hilarious show tunes.

"On October 1, 2001, the Million Mom March merged with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.":

Million Mom March
http://www.millionmommarch.com/

The so-called "Million Mom March" actually had a few thousand attendees, in contrast with the lying anti-gun media claiming about 750,000. ABC News' own aerial footage shows that the event occupied only a tiny fraction of the Washington D.C. Mall. See video stills at Etherzone and FreeRepublic

Reason Express points out some of the falsehoods and distortions being circulated by MMM, and Jacob Sullum comments in his syndicated weekly column that can also be found on the Reason Online Gun Resources page.

Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV)
http://www.csgv.org/
Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (EFSGV)
http://www.efsgv.org/

The Gunfree Web Site includes sites of two related major anti-rights organizations:

CSGV and EFSGV in turn have created or participate in several other organizations or web sites:

Assault Weapons: Ban Them Now
A site dedicated to banning so-called "Assault Weapons." Includes documents such as the CSGV report "Killing Machines: The Case for Banning Assault Weapons" and model legislation for such gun bans.
Firearms Litigation Clearinghouse
"The Firearms Litigation Clearinghouse (FLC) was established in 1981 to facilitate the reduction of firearms injuries through the use of the civil justice system."
Justice for Gun Victims
"Justice for Gun Victims is a national campaign of the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, to oppose and eliminate special treatment for the gun industry and to educate the public about pending immunity legislation at the state and federal level."
Candidates On Guns
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV)'s "website designed as a clearinghouse for information on Presidential candidates' positions on the gun violence prevention issue."
The Ymedia Project
Apparently a youth anti-rights indoctrination campaign, the 'Ymedia Project is an updated, expanded version of the original "Hands Without Guns" program.'

The Violence Policy Center page, formerly at Gunfree, now has its own URL below.

What the above anti-rights organizations lack in membership they seem to compensate for in spawning a plethora of front organizations. Presumably the intent is to create the illusion that there is a broad base of many organzations supporting their anti-freedom position, when in fact there are a relatively few people and a couple groups actually behind several of them.

Violence Policy Center
http://www.vpc.org/

The Violence Policy Center is a non-profit anti-gun organization presenting firearms as a "health crisis". VPC actively lobbies for state, local and federal legislation restricting arms rights. They are having some success at the state level in having government consumer safety bureaucrats ban firearms or make difficult their ownership, declaring them inherently dangerous objects. The VPC web site was formerly at Gunfree above.

See Dr. Edgar Suter's Guns in the Medical Literature -- A Failure of Peer Review and Violence in America - Effective Solutions for excellent research refuting these claims.

Physicians for Social Responsibility -- Violence Prevention Program
http://www.psr.org/violence.html

"PSR's Violence Prevention Program is building a national Violence Prevention Network of physicians, public health professionals, PSR staff and supporters working to reduce firearms and domestic violence."

The Joyce Foundation
http://www.joycefdn.org/programs/gunviolence/gunviolencemain-fs.html

The Joyce Foundation funds other anti-gun organizations, such as Join Together above, and others. There is a list of their anti-gun grantees on their site. Among the many are Violence Policy Center and Physicians for Social Responsibility.

Americans for Gun Safety
http://www.americansforgunsafety.com/

Supported by Monster.com founder Andrew McKelvey, Americans for Gun Safety claims to be centrist and non-partisan but their "Possible Solutions" are a rehash of tired old "gun control" infringements of our rights. AGS does not mention any positive uses of guns including at least a million defenses against crime a year. No reasonable person could consider this to be a centrist or non-partisan viewpoint since these life-saving facts are ignored.

If McKelvey and AGS had any true interest in promoting gun safety it would support the efforts of the NRA who have been teaching safety and marksmanship classes for more than 100 years. NRA has done more to concretely enhance gun safety than any other organization.

GunRegistration.org
http://www.gunregistration.org/

An online petition in support of U.S. Senator Jack Reed's (Democrat from Rhode Island) Handgun Safety and Registration Act of 2000, S. 2099. Supported by Handgun Control, Inc., Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Violence Policy Center, Physicians for Social Responsibility.

S. 2099 would treat handguns the same as machine guns meaning "photographs, fingerprints, and background checks on all transfers of handguns, as well as registration of the firearms and those who own them, restrictions on interstate transportation, etc. Registration information would be available for online access by state & local law enforcement officials." (from NRA-ILA fact sheet on S. 2099)

The Trauma Foundation
http://www.tf.org/

The Trauma Foundation is an anti-gun organization masquerading as a public health organization. Since 1975, it has been housed at San Francisco General Hospital, which is a city-owned facility.

"The Trauma Foundation received grants from The Goldman Fund in 1998 and the David & Lucile Packard Foundation in the year 1999 to create The Bell Campaign, the mission of which was to prevent gun death and injury, and to support victims of gun trauma. In mid-June of 2000, The Bell Campaign's Board of Directors voted to change the official name of the organization to the Million Mom March Foundation and later created the Million Mom March. For nearly three years the Trauma Foundation served as the incubator for The Bell Campaign/Million Mom March and developed its program to serve the needs of survivor advocates"

Physicians for a Violence-free Society
http://www.pvs.org/

Pacific Center for Violence Prevention, formerly at http://www.pcvp.org/ seems to have merged into a similar organization with a new name "Physicians for a Violence-free Society", which was kicked out of their Dallas location apparently for their anti-gun political activity, much as the previous incarnation of the PCVP was in San Francisco. The PVS history page downplays their gun ban activities, but their legislation page lists only anti-gun legislation.

Lawyers, Guns and Money
http://www.lawyersgunsandmoney.com/

Infomation about the coalition of Trial Lawyers and Left-Wing activist lawyers involved in the recent lawsuits by cities against firearms manufacturers and distributors.

Police Foundation
http://www.policefoundation.org/

"The purpose of the Police Foundation is to help the police be more effective in doing their job, whether it be deterring robberies, intervening in potentially injurious family disputes, or working to improve relationships between the police and the communities they serve."

Based on their inclusion of biased anti-gun publications, the Police Foundation appears to have a one-sided political agenda which has little to do with effective, just policing or crime reduction. I've never met a street cop who believes "gun control" will reduce crime or affect criminals.

Silent March
http://www.silentmarch.org/

"The Silent March will be holding demonstrations with an emphasis on the children & adolescents killed by guns." Has various anti-gun agenda items.

Coalition for Peace Action
http://www.peacecoalition.org/

An anti-gun group apparently headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey.

Mother Jones
http://www.mojones.com/

Mother Jones on violence in the media, "widespread availability of firearms," and so on. Pieces by anti-rights, anti-self-defense leaders.

Children Now
http://www.childrennow.org/

An organization calling for firearms bans claiming they present a threat to children. Their statistics are not current.

See David Kopel's Children and Guns: Sensible Solutions for accurate information about children and firearms which refutes these claims and instead offers practical solutions addressing the underlying sources of youth crime.

Handgun Epidemic Lowering Plan (HELP)
http://www.childmmc.edu/HELP/helphome.htm
Violent Injury Prevention Center (VIPC)
http://www.childmmc.edu/cmhweb/cmhotherdepts/Advocacy/VIPC/VIPChome.htm

The HELP Network is located at the Violent Injury Prevention Center (VIPC) of Children's Memorial Medical Center in Chicago. It seeks to ban handguns by blaming firearms for violence ("the modern plague caused by firearms") and framing their arguments in public health terms.

See Dr. Edgar Suter's Guns in the Medical Literature -- A Failure of Peer Review and Violence in America - Effective Solutions for excellent research refuting these claims. See also David Kopel's Children and Guns: Sensible Solutions for accurate information about children and firearms.

Firearm Injury Center of the Medical College of Wisconsin
http://www.mcw.edu/fic/

"The Firearm Injury Center is dedicated to the reduction of firearm injuries and deaths. The Center provides comprehensive, objective, accurate information and analysis of firearms and related morbidity and mortality."

Noble goals, but the researchers completely ignore the possiblility that firearms have a beneficial use, specifically deterrance of and effective defense against crime. No scientifically valid or intellectually honest study of the social impact of firearms would leave out more than half the data.

Pluto Press (Australia)
http://media.socialchange.net.au/pluto/

Over Our Dead Bodies: Port Arthur and the fight for gun control by Simon Chapman of the Public Health and Community Medicine Department, University of Sydney is self-described as "an insider's view of the struggle for gun control:"

The Port Arthur massacre on 28 April 1996, when 35 people were shot dead by Martin Bryant, transformed Australia's gun control debate. Massive public outrage over the years of political spinelessness in confronting the gun lobby levered politicians from all sides of politics into supporting Prime Minister John Howard's resolve to outlaw semi-automatic weapons, register all guns and tighten the reasons allowed for owning a gun. 640,000 semi-automatic guns were bought- back from shooters in the world's largest buy-back operation.
Note that the buyback was not voluntary; i.e. this was the Australian government forcing confiscation of millions of privately owned firearms from its citizens then destroying them.
Small Arms Survey
http://www.smallarmssurvey.org/

An international anti-gun group based on the following false premise:

The proliferation of small arms and light weapons represents a grave threat to human security. The unchecked spread of these weapons has exacerbated inter- and intra-state conflicts, contributed to human rights violations, undermined political and economic development, destabilized communities, and devastated the lives of millions of people.
