The results were unsurprising. The correlations were: white % of county: 0.46 black % of county: -0.47 Hispanic % of county: -0.43 Asian & Pacific Islander % of county: -0.40 The surprise was that American Indian % of county had 0.36 corelation with CCW issuance. Before getting too excited, and running off to use these numbers, it is entirely possible that these correlations simply reflect the heavily urbanized nature of blacks and Asians in California. That would also explain the strong positive correlation of American Indians to CCW issuance. I will be grinding through all the available 1990 census data numbers against CCW issuance and see if these apparently racist correlations reflect some underlying variable, such as rurality of county.
