The PROponent Peoples Rights Organization 5 E. Long St., Suite 412; Columbus, OH 43215; (614) 268-0122 Volume 6 June, 1994 Number 6 (headline) 2nd FALLS! SECOND AMENDMENT FALLS ... Do you know where I was about 18 months ago? I was out walking in the rain with a huge stack of campaign literature going door to door getting back-stabber Deborah Pryce (R-15) elected. The same Deborah Pryce that kept coming back to PRO's PAC for more and more money to help get the TV spots to put her over the top. In fact, PRO emptied it's PAC into her coffers that election. She did hang tough on the Brady bill by voting against it and all anti-gun amendments, but when the stakes really got high, she simply turned her back on her supporters, the voters, her oath of office and even obeying the law. God knows what she was offered to sell out, but I got $20 that says that stupid female probably didn't ask for enough considering the power she held by providing one of the last two votes needed for passage of the Clinton-Feinstein Second Amendment firearms ban and the crimes of sedition and denying citizens their civil rights she had to commit. Nevertheless, she voted to overthrow the Bill of Rights by force. The same goes for John Kasich (R-12) who provided the other vote allowing "the great state of Ohio" to put the "assault weapon" ban and registration bill "over the top." But we are not nearly so disappointed in John since we were not instrumental in getting him elected and it was clear to us some time ago that he had sold his soul when his budget cut failed and he then began pushing for a Constitutional Convention and began working behind the scenes for gun-grabber candidates like Dewey Stokes. Just like Ronald Reagan before him, who worked so hard to save what America stands for, and then in the end sold out and joined the forces of "gun control," socialism and dictatorial government. Just as Reagan lobbied for the Clinton-Feinstein Second-Amendment-firearms-ban, it wouldn't surprise me to find Kasich out stumping for Joel Hyatt this fall ... after all if you make a deal with the devil, and he keeps his part, you have to do as your told. The third sellout came from Douglas Applegate (D-18) in the large rural 18th district to the east of Columbus. God knows how a representative from a rural district like this thought he could get away with a vote to take away his constituent's guns. They must have offered him plenty. We can only hope this vote wakes up all those sleeping farmers to the East. If you check out the map of votes for the ban, you may be surprised to note that both Oxley (R-4) and Regula (R-16) voted against it. While this pair have been constant supporters of "gun control" and voted for the "Brady" bill, it seems that a direct illegal overthrow of the Constitution was going too far for them. Except for the three sell-outs discussed above the other names voting for the ban were the same old well-known opponents of the Constitution from Cleveland, Toledo, Youngstown, and Cincinnati. In those areas The gun-grabber map for this vote looks pretty much the same as other votes on gun (map of Ohio Congressional Districts and Feinstein vote) Shaded districts voted FOR gun and magazine ban. CONGRESSIONAL CRIMINALS ... I know that when I start accusing congressmen of committing crimes it is likely to be dismissed as nothing but "radical" talk, so let me take a little time to show that this is truth and not just "talk". Folks of the radical right often love to accuse our elected officials of treason. While this could be true, the meaning is that they are taking orders from a foreign power to subvert the United States of America. Such a foreign power could be the UN or the European owned Federal Reserve System, but proof of a direct connection is (understandably) hard to find. Thus, such accusations remain primarily talk. A crime about which there can be no doubt, however, is sedition. Another is the denying of Civil Rights as guaranteed in the Constitution to citizens of this country. Every congressional representative who voted to ban Second Amendment firearms is guilty of these crimes. The Second Amendment affirms the right of the "militia" to keep and bear arms. Understand that from colonial times to today U.S. Code clearly defines the military. The U.S. military consist of several parts. One part is the "standing army" or the "organized militia" the other (except in certain cases) consists of the all able-bodied males between the ages of 18 and 45 who are the "unorganized militia". By U.S. Federal Law the unorganized militia is part and parcel of the military defense of this nation. Anyone attempting to subvert the military of this nation is guilty of sedition. The key here is that the Klinton-Feinstein Second Amendment firearms ban goes specifically after those arms which are to be used by the unorganized militia ... military style firearms. To be specific: the Colt AR-15 is the "civilian version" of the standing army's M-16. The M-16 is the standard military arm and thus, the AR-15 clearly has to be considered the standard unorganized militia firearm. But the Clinton ban goes well beyond banning one gun into banning virtually all guns with potential use as militia firearms. In addition the bill further reduced the effectiveness of the militia by a magazine ban that reduces the ammunition capacity of firearms by half. One final side effect upon the militia is that by targeting the manufacture and sale of new firearms and "high capacity" magazines it will through supply and demand produce extremely high prices for the most desirable militia equipment. This price increase can only further reduce the ability of militia-qualified civilians to arm themselves as required by law. THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT DEBORAH PRYCE, JOHN KASICH, AND ALL THE OTHERS WHO VOTED FOR THIS SECOND AMENDMENT FIREARMS BAN HAVE COMMITTED SEDITION AGAINST THE MILITIA BY TRYING TO DISARM IT AND ARE ALL GUILTY ON THE FACE OF IT. But there is still more. The maintenance of an unorganized militia is not just some great idea thought up by Congress who can just as easily repeal it. It is a civil right affirmed in the Constitution. It gives the PEOPLE the right to keep and bear MILITIA arms. ALL GUN OWNERS PLEASE NOTE HERE THAT THE SECOND AMENDMENT AFFIRMS NO RIGHT TO OWN SPORTING EQUIPMENT (hunting firearms). Disarming and disbandment of the unorganized militia cannot be done by an ordinary act of congress. Such action requires a constitutional amendment repealing it. Moreover, by the civil rights laws presently in U.S. Code, the attempt to deny civil rights to any citizen by any government official is a crime. It doesn't matter if it is police working over some ex-con like Rodney King or your elected representative voting to overthrow the constitution illegally. No government official can deny you your rights without committing this crime. Militia rights are civil rights. Once again, on the face of it, every lawmaker who voted to disarm the unorganized militia, clearly conspired to deny civil rights at minimum to all those able-bodied males between the ages of 18 and 45. Furthermore, the 9th Amendment guarantees that all other rights which happen not to be listed in the Bill of Rights are retained by the people. One such right that is so basic that there is virtually no honest person who argues against it. It is the right of self-defense. This unenumerated right guarantees that arms can be owned not only by able-bodied males between 18 and 45, but also by the infirm, the old, women, and other non-militia citizens of good record and sound mind. The banning of those firearms MOST SUITABLE for self-defense is thus, an additional conspiracy to deny constitutionally guaranteed civil rights. It is an additional crime. Lastly, each and every congressional delegate voting to deny citizens their civil rights had individually taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. In violating that oath of office they have also committed an impeachable offense. While the PRO writers are not lawyers, we think these crimes are so obvious it is almost impossible for any honest person to deny they exist. Some years ago there was much talk about whether President Nixon was a crook. He was run from office by a vicious press and partisan attacks. But in truth what crime did he commit? Is a discussion about handling political problems with your staff a crime? The controlled press thought so. His real crime, as I understand it, was that he tried to resist orders from the rich and powerful behind the scenes. Even so, the same questions remain. Do you want your government (and your lives) run by crooks? If not, your work is cut out for you. One reason street crime is rampant is because punishment is not swift and sure. It is often non-existent. The same goes for congressional crime. It pays. Pryce and Kasich can thumb their nose at the American people and the laws of the land because they see no punishment in their future ... only promises of rewards. They must be punished. But you know and I know that no appointed federal judge will ever try such a case. No federal prosecutor will ever accuse these officials of their crimes no matter how obvious and blatant. There are indeed very few lawyers who would even consider going near such a case. The media will dutifully provide the cover-up and joyfully celebrate the destruction of the country in plain view of all it's citizens. It is their hope that you too will join their celebration. Thus, punishment must come at the polls this fall. We can do it but it will take dedication like PRO has never seen before from its members. We need to turn out not 10 or 20 people to distribute campaign literature but HUNDREDS! We need a donation from each and every PRO member of $20 or whatever more you can afford to our PAC. But PRO's real strength is not money but the work-power of its members. That is something opposition money can't buy. If each and every one of our thousands of members decided to play a part in putting opposition literature in the hand of EACH AND EVERY VOTER in Pryce's and Kasich's districts, then maybe, just maybe, we can send a message to congress that crimes in office don't pay. While it is true that the Second Amendment firearms ban won't be law unless the total "crime" bill passes, we nonetheless ask each PRO member to think now about what YOU intend to do this fall about this back-stabbing you just got from these crooks. Well, what will you do? LOCK, STOCK & BARREL... B. Sutton Coffman sent us this tidbit about the Death Clock that records every death related to firearms. If you dial 1-800-949-4867 and hit redial repeatedly, $.80 will be charged to Gun Fighters of America's phone bill each time you call. This is exactly the way that the gay community bankrupted Jerry Falwell's Moral Majority. At $.80 per call, the gays charged up a $2 million phone bill. Take a moment or two, or an hour or two, or a day or two and help kill the Death Clock. This will also send a huge message to the media and politicians. One night after Rush was on tv, this editor dialed and started hitting the redial button. After the third call, the Death Clock would no longer accept my calls. It explained that they were trying to keep costs down by not allowing repeat calls from the same number. They got wise faster that Falwell did. It still cost them $2.40 to not allow me to dial them. A small victory, but it felt good. Coffman is the owner of Lock, Stock & Barrel Gun Store in Heath, Ohio. He also sets up at many of the PRO and PRO-Central gun shows. DEFECTORS... On May 5, 1994, you and I suffered a stunning set-back to our constitutional rights. We also went from a country that was governed to a country that is ruled. In addition to two noted defectors in central Ohio there were others in Texas, North Carolina and New York. One representative sold out for a photo opportunity with the president. The most blatant was Amo Houghton (R-NY). Houghton is also the CEO of Dow Corning, the company that made all the leaky breast implants. One wonders what that company will receive from the government in return for his vote for the gun ban. Central Ohio has had a good record in the House of Representatives during the last two years in regards to the gun issue. John Kasich and Deborah Pryce were both voting for our civil rights in regards to the Second Amendment. No More. After the Brady law vote, Pryce explained her vote against it thusly: "Through my experience as a prosecutor and judge, I believe that criminals do not buy guns in legitimate establishments." This statement was dated December 3, 1993. Pryce, along with her fellow women representatives, all voted for the ban. She said that she voted her conscience. She also lied! Pryce screened before Citizens Against Crime and stated her support of the Second Amendment. In her letters to her constituents she promised to defend the Second Amendment. We even published her letter in previous editions of the PROponent so that our members and readers could see that she was in our corner. She lied! What is worse, is that she made this editor of the PROponent a liar, in that he told countless callers that she was on our side. In her less than two years in Washington, Pryce has learned exceptionally well how to play the Washington betrayal game. She was a very apt pupil. This editor was also a member of the Republican Central Committee when Pryce defeated E.J. Thomas in his bid to run for the House seat being vacated by Chalmers Wylie. He should have listened to his first instincts about her, instead of being swayed by others. First impressions are often correct, and in this case, they were. As a result of being led down the primrose path by this lying politician, I apologize. Kasich just proved that he is a career politician with his turncoat vote. When the term limit vote was decided in Ohio, it was said that in order to rid ourselves of politicians like Marcy Kaptur, Metzembaum and Fingerhut, Kasich was a small price to pay. At least Kasich will be forced out of office with term limits. RUMOR has it that Kasich sold his vote for the Newark military base. This is rumor only. We do not usually print rumors, but in this case it is important. President Clinton coerced members of the House to vote for the ban through promises he made. He could of told Kasich that the Newark base would stay, or not lose as many jobs as first stated, if he voted for the ban. A side note should be inserted here. A delegation of Ohio police officers went to Washington to lobby against the ban. They made appointments to meet with Kasich. He played them off and did not show for the meeting. Pryce refused to meet with them. Central Ohio has again joined the ranks of having typical politicians that do not concede to their constituents wishes. [Editor's Note: We have obtained for you, Traitor Pryce's press release that was distributed immediately after her vote. She has also learned how to double-speak in her short tenure in LA-LA Land. Please contact PRO to obtain a copy.] OHIO CONTINUES ASSAULT ON RIGHTS ... Like some bad horror movie theme, the Rights-grabbers keep cranking out sequels. Before the ink was dry on the "Brady" bill, Ohio Senator Howard Metzenbaum and New York Rep. Charles Schumer had cranked out the joint attack of H.R. 3932 and S. 1878. If the "Brady" bill was the camel's nose under the tent, Schumer crowed that now "Brady II" is going to show you more of the camel. So while we saw the recent example of Jews in Hawaii fighting hard against the gun laws that have historically always preceded genocides, Jews Metzenbaum and Schumer seem to be taking their cue for the "control" of gun owners from the harsh way Israelis have "controlled" Palestinians. (The Government and it's agents get to use assault weapons, real ones, not semi-auto, and the Palestinians get to throw rocks.) Although in fairness to Israel, we must point out that the really extreme behavior (like shooting up a mosque full of innocent worshipers) was done by some of Schumer's fellow New York City Jews. Instead of "never again" this pair seems to be saying "how soon can we do it here." It should also be no surprise that "Brady II" sounds like something out of the former Soviet Union. From time to time I will remark to PRO members about "communist Metzenbaum" and they will agree with a statement like, "commie, right on" thinking that I am just name-calling. No! I have to stop and explain that Howard Metzenbaum really is a communist. Howard Metzenbaum was for many years a high official of a number of organizations founded by the Ohio Communist party. It's how he gets his strong labor support (you know, workers rising up and all that). Howard Metzenbaum was one of the founders of the Ohio School of Social Science declared by the U.S. government to be a communist front. Once again PRO is not name-calling but telling the truth. So check out these features of "Brady II" which include: - An illegal federal mandate that forces states to register handgun owners like car drivers with a "State Handgun License" - Increase waiting period from five (working days) to seven. [Note that gun stores told me the current wait in Ohio is actually 7 to 9 days depending upon which day you buy the gun. The press still calls it a "five day wait."] - Require an "arsenal" license every three years costing $300 for anyone owning more than 20 guns or having more than two bricks of .22 ammo (1000 rounds) - Limit handgun purchases to one per month. - Increase FFL fees to $1000 per year and permit up to three warrantless searches per year of gun dealer's premises. (and gather up yellow sheets from those going out of business.) - End gun shows by restricting sales to location listed on license. - Ban over 600 guns and parts including AR-15, Sporter, all AK-47 types, and ANY .22, .25, or .32 handgun weighing less than 18 oz. unloaded. - Ban all magazines that hold six (6) rounds or more! - Raise federal handgun tax to 30% and Ammo tax to 50%. The April issue of The Gun Owners notes that all the provisions of "Brady II" were first proposed by Handgun Control Inc. earlier this year. We are sure that just like Jason in the horror movie series where every sequel is supposed to be "the final chapter", yet each time he rises anew for another go at blood and guts. So you can expect "Brady III" and IV and V and VI and so on until each and every gun owner is either driven from the face of the earth or else forced to bow down on bended knee before those in power and swear to obey their every command without question and promise to use your guns only to serve the vile beast. STOKES WINS ... Carol Ann Carroll lost her bid to run as a republican in the November election by 31,000 votes. Stokes took 32,328 and Carroll received 21,500 votes. Mark S. Froehlich, the democratic candidate, running unopposed garnered 31,755 votes. 573 less than Stokes. This strong showing by Froelich shows that he can beat his opponent. But it will take a lot of hard work and effort. It will also take more than a 23% voter turnout. It is estimated that there are more than 80 million gun owners in America and Ohio is second to California in gun ownership. If you own a gun you must exercise your constitutional right to VOTE. Ohio has long been a sore point across the country for fostering politicians such as Metzenbaum, (Louis) Stokes, Kaptur and Fingerhut. We keep electing and re-electing these politicians that want to change us from governed to ruled. Wake up! Register to vote at any public library, most gun shows or the County Board of Elections. And then VOTE. It is so very important to vote in order to protect our freedoms. Many say they don't register to vote because they might have to serve jury duty. There is a many paged form to fill out. It deals with your health and beliefs and what organizations you belong to. If you are a member of the NRA, PRO, CCRKBA, Libertarians, John Birch Society or any one of a dozen other organizations, you will probably be excused from jury duty. With increasing regularity, juries are being filled from the part of society that is not the best educated or the best informed segments of our culture. If they see that you belong to groups that continually educate their members about what is going on in government and society, they will likely excuse you from jury duty. Does lack of real justice and hideous awards in nuisance lawsuits begin to make sense? Another reason given for not voting is the weather. If you hunt in the rain, snow and cold, then you sure as hell can go vote. Carroll suffered several setbacks in her campaign for County Commissioner. She broke her leg in a running accident and her mother suffered a serious illness that she did recover from. The serious illness did distract Carroll during the campaign. She did not complain and she gave an excellent account of herself during the campaign never-the-less. Our hats are off to Carol Ann Carroll. SUPREME COURT AND THE PRESS ... As you may have heard, super-liberal Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun is retiring and Bill Klinton has a chance to turn the court [even] more socialist and responsive to administration schemes and plans. As usual our "watchdog press" is taking barking orders from those in power, beating the drum to support their plans and ignoring all their illegalities. As you may have also heard, Senate majority leader George Mitchell was nominated by Slick Willie for the soon to be vacant post and the media went into a series of oohs and aahs about how wonderful this would be. But then he withdrew and the press though showing disappointment, just passed it off as his "being needed to help push through Hillary's [socialist] health insurance scheme." The truth never found it's way into public view. The view in government is that if you "get away with" a crime, then there was no crime. And Clinton is obviously not a leader in the same class as the hero and founder of Socialism in America, Franklin D. Roosevelt. When an opening appeared on the Supreme Court, F.D.R. nominated Senator Hugo Black even though he was ineligible. Nevertheless, the Senate approved the nomination 63 to 16 according to the Congressional Record of August 17, 1937. He was sworn in six hours later. The reason both Hugo Black and George Mitchell are ineligible is stated plainly in Article I, Section 6 of the U.S. Constitution: "No Senator or Representative shall, during the time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments [salary, benefits etc.] whereof shall have been increased during such time." Both Senator Black and Senator Mitchell voted for pay increases for justices during their terms in office. We don't know whether it was Mitchell or Clinton that got cold feet in attempting to push through another shady black illegality straight out of the era of Roosevelt Democrats, but it was very clear the press and other national media were all saying go for the crime. And I didn't hear any Republicans quoting the Constitution either! ____________________________________________________________ And the rifle? Wouldn't go out naked of a rifle. When shoes and clothes and food, when even hope is gone, we'll have the rifle. John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath ____________________________________________________________ The Second Amendment: Then and Now. By Alan M. Gottlieb Alan Gottlieb is the Founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and publisher of the weekly newspaper Gun Week. The debate over the Second Amendment has nearly reached a boiling point in the 1990's. The entire issue stems from the Second Amendment itself, and whether it protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms. And, whether it confers a right only for militia uses, or whether it encompasses a generic right to arms, whether or not the people encompass the militia, and whether the word "people" applies to individuals. The Founding Fathers' attitudes on the right of gun ownership, are readily available. Every one of the Founders who discussed arms emphatically endorsed their possession as a fundamental individual right. In defense of the constitution, John Adams wrote, "Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion...in private self-defense." In the Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton wrote, "The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed." In debate, Patrick Henry said, "The great object is that every man be armed...the people have a right to keep and bear arms." Thomas Jefferson argued, "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." And George Washington at a speech in Boston said, "A free people ought to be armed." James Madison, the author of the Second Amendment, wrote in the Federalist Papers, "Americans have the right and advantages of being armed - unlike the citizens of the countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." Individuals being armed in order to preserve their liberties and the republican form of government is not "politically correct" to some today. But it was supremely important to all political philosophies valued by the Founders. A 1982 Report of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee of the Constitution is particularly significant. With the benefit of its own discovery of previously unknown evidence in the earliest records of the Library of Congress, the Subcommittee had no hesitation in concluding that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right which is applicable to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. On its face, the Second Amendment's language- "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" -suggests an intent to guarantee a right which people can effectively enforce. This was invariably what the Founders described on the numerous occasions in which they indicated what they meant by "militia," and that is how the identical "right of the people" language which appears in the First and Fourth Amendments has always been construed. In fact, in the 1989 U.S. v. Verdugo-Urquidez Fourth Amendment case, while listing places where ",the people" refers to an individual right the U.S. Supreme Court specifically mentioned the Second Amendment. The Founding Fathers praised the individual ownership of firearms in terms that would seem extravagant even from today's pro-gun organizations, and thus there is no reason for assuming that individuals were excluded from the right to arms the Founders wrote into the Constitution. There is no support for the assumption that the right is only a collective one because all the political philosophers cited by the Founders affirmed that the individual's right to possess arms is his ultimate guarantee against tyranny. By "militia," the Founders meant "all (militarily capable) males...bearing arms supplied by themselves." When what was guaranteed by English common law and confirmed by the English Bill of Rights of 1689 was unequivocally an individual right to keep and bear arms, there is no cause for assuming that its American successor guarantees only an exclusively "collective right" -something that did not exist in any legal system with which the Founding Fathers were familiar. Last, if the Founding Fathers had intended to guarantee an exclusively "collective right," they would not have done so in language which in light of the English and American legal background their contemporaries could only and uniformly did construe as preserving an individual right. The evidence for the individual right interpretation is so overwhelming that the existence of an argument which degrades the Second Amendment into a meaningless "collective right" is inexplicable. The explanation is that this "collective right" argument has been written, under the influence of a violent antipathy to firearms and a profound belief that they should be eradicated, the Constitution notwithstanding. Opponents of the individual right interpretation argue that the Second Amendment may simply be ignored because technological changes since 1791 has rendered an armed citizenry irrelevant for either national defense or resistance to domestic tyranny. Even if this were true, the Constitution comes with its own designated mechanism for deleting obsolescence - the amendatory process. It is simply impermissible to substitute for the process of constitutional amendment a self-serving conclusion that rights guaranteed to the people are no longer relevant. Moreover, it does not follow that because we have a large standing army and national guard, that no conceivable emergency could require mustering the individually armed citizenry. Even less creditable is the oft-made assurance that the amendments social purpose has no meaning today since a citizenry possessing only small arms could not compete with a despotism possessing more sophisticated weapons. If the people start out with small arms they can obtain more sophisticated weapons by capture or by maintaining the struggle to the point at which sympathetic segments of the opposing military break off and join with the people. Anyone who claims that popular struggles are doomed to defeat by modern military technology must find it literally incredible that France and the United States suffered defeat in Viet Nam; that the Shaw no longer rules Iran, Somoza, Nicaragua; that Portugal was expelled from Angola and Mozambique; England from Palestine and Ireland; and France from Algeria. Even more important for a free country is that the citizenry's possession of arms serves to actively deter those who might consider substituting their own rule for that of the people. A citizenry possessing upwards of 200 million firearms is a deterrent today to the despotism it was originally intended to obviate. While our government has quite a good record of exerting power without abusing it, the deterrent effect of an armed citizenry is one little recognized factor that contributed to this. In the words of the late Senator Hubert Humphrey, "The right of the citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safe-guard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically had proved to be always possible." [The Editors thank Mr. Gottlieb for submitting his new article to PRO for wider distribution to pro-gunners. It has already appeared in other publications such as April 29, 1994 The New Gun Week. Thanks again.] SARAH BRADY WANTS TO KILL YOU ... While Handgun Control Inc. (HCI) is denying that the confidential memo published in many pro-gun magazines and newsletters including the PROponent, she is out on the campaign trail advocating the very program outlined therein.Let's face it. If PRO had some secret agenda leaked to the press, we would likely disavow ours also. It's how the game is played. However, one rather un-noticed feature of the HCI paper that is a sign of UTMOST importance is that this memo was reputed to be the minutes of a meeting held at the Whitehouse! This gives it much more importance than if it were just a gun-grabbing brainstorming session at HCI headquarters. Thus, Sarah Brady has joined with other elitists like our president to promote themselves as a new class of royalty. As those whose special "sensitivity" qualify them to rule and thus are those alone deserving of the "privilege" of self-defense. In short, Sarah Brady wants you dead. She was quoted in the August 15, New York Times as have an ultimate goal a "needs-based licensing" system. And what does she consider a legitimate "need" for a gun? She said in the Oct 21, 1993 Tampa Tribune, "To me, the only reason for guns in civilian hands is for sporting purposes." The idea that the life of the individual citizen is valueless is becoming widely entrenched throughout the world despite the defeat of Hitler, one of its major proponents. Another is Professor M.L. Friedland, the "father" of Canadian "gun control." An article by David Kopel in the May Blue Press, quotes him saying 15 years ago, "To protect life or property should not be a valid reason [to own a handgun] ... Citizens should rely on the police, security guards, and alarm systems for protection." Today his ideas are all but implemented in Canada. Police seldom if ever issue permits based on a need for self-defense. In New South Wales Australia, Self-defense is already a crime as it is in England. This so-called liberal idea couldn't be more royalist and monarchist. At base it says that only the king, his court and those with sworn allegiance to him shall have the right of self defense. Other subjects are just so much dog do-do on the side walk. If some criminal wants to take your life, it is against the law to do anything but stand there and die. The same goes if the king's men decide to hose you down the sewer. Sarah Brady pretends to care so much about victims of violence. "If just one life is saved," she repeats endlessly. How caring. How liberal. How racist. How discriminatory. Who is pointing out that security guards and alarms are affordable only by the rich. When Marie Antoinette was told the peasants were starving and had no bread, she replied "Then let them eat cake." Today when Sarah Brady is told that inner city families are being killed by criminals, this modern day monarchist seems to be saying just as haughtily, that then they should just buy alarms and hire private guards. DUH ... Children are the future. This is obvious. But these days there seems to be a concerted effort to destroy the future of this country through the "dumbing down" of our children. I quite frankly have a hard time understanding the mentality of those in power who believe that wealth and control can somehow be achieved through the destruction of the country. Sure, dumb people are easier to manipulate, but trying to fix your luxury at today's standards is very short sighted indeed. Suppose those living in the lap of medieval luxury were successful in stifling the Renaissance. Today their rich and powerful decedents could be enjoying all the cold, drafty and disease-ridden pleasure that age had to offer. Yech! The problem is that these folks who have fixed their minds on stopping progress at today's level simply don't understand that today's inner-city poor live better than many a king of yore. There were two recent events that prompted me to discuss the issue of education again. One was a big flap in Lake county Florida over a school board policy mandating that schools teach American values and that our system is best. The other was the recent solar eclipse. Anyone who wonders what kind of future is being provided for this country by the current education system need go no further than your local McDonald's. The best story I ever heard was from a friend who wanted a slice of lemon in iced tea. "We don't have any lemon slices," the high school girl behind the counter said. "Well, do you have any whole lemons." he asked. "Duh, yes, so?" (and this is the best part) A retarded girl [or "special" or whatever the current "in" word is] who worked there then came over and began to explain to the this flower of the modern school system how you can get lemon slices from whole lemons! So how do we get to this point where the retarded know more about science than recent graduates? A hint came to light in the recent solar eclipse. The Dispatch described a man who took his daughter out of school so she could view the eclipse. Of course, he had to do it under the guise of taking her to lunch! Many schools would not allow kids outside during the eclipse because they might hurt their eyes. So here is a major astronomical event that happens only every ten or twenty years going on right outside the window, while kids are not just discouraged from understanding it, but forced bodily to ignore it. I suppose it is one small step to teaching the "politically correct" theory that "a dragon swallowed the sun." Another problem is the concerted effort to undermine the idea that there is an American "culture." The ideas of one culture are just as valid as the ideas of another, so the story goes. Thus, we can no longer demand that children learn English. We can no longer teach that America is the greatest country in the world. We can no longer educate our young in those ways (if we can still remember what they were) that made America best. So when the Lake county, Florida School Board sent down orders that teachers stress American cultural values there is a big ultra-liberal outcry. An Indian-American student is shown all over the media worrying how the new policy will ruin his self-esteem and degrade his values passed down from India. Sure there is much of value in Indian culture, or Hispanic culture and so on, but all you have to do is visit India or just talk to someone who has returned from there to learn how primitive and cruel life can be in that country. It is the constructive values of American culture that has made her great. Sure there are those who see political advantage in breaking down American will through confusion and a diversity of foreign values, but the real strength of America has always been the adoption of a diversity of the best of other cultures while combining them with the underlying constructive values that made this country great. If we begin to teach that all values are equal whether constructive or destructive, then soon we too shall become just another third world country of beggars or another banana republic. (Cartoon of back end of pickup truck with bumper stickers including: "I'm the NRA and I vote!"; "Jane Fonda Commie, Traitor, Bitch" with Jane Fonda crossed out and PRYCE written in; and "Sportsmen for Pryce" with Pryce crossed out and Buckel written in.) ____________________________________________________________ PRO goes "Alternative" PRO "Personals" Politically-active, athletic DWM with large gun collection seeks good-looking articulate ultra-liberal females for long hot discussions about the right to Keep and Bear Arms. Call PRO [It's just a joke! Please don't write the editors, OK?] ____________________________________________________________ DO NOT SHOOT THEM ... What with the fall of the Second Amendment to the Constitution, this writer has begun to notice that what used to be nothing more than low-level jokes about shooting anti-gun politicians seems to have taken on a somewhat decidedly more serious tone. This is a VERY bad sign. Whatever happens, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT SHOOTING POLITICIANS. Apart from moral considerations and no matter what crimes and illegalities these people are guilty of, this is the absolute worst thing a pro-gunner could do to us. It is exactly what the other side wants! What's more, if it turns out that no gun owner goes round-the-bend and begins shooting, you can be sure that the anti-gunners will do the job themselves and make it look like a pro-gunner did it. It works like this: "When the time comes" to arrest all gun owners and gather up all firearms, an excuse will be needed to implement all the presidential executive orders so carefully laid in place. An excuse will be needed to declare an emergency. An excuse will be needed to void the Constitution and declare martial law. That excuse will, of course, be the appearance of armed "insurrection". If none of the groups of "patriots" can be pushed into doing it, then those in power will have to arrange it themselves. Allow me to explain the trouble you are in. First of all, our real fight is not with Metzenbaum, Schumer, Stokes or those of their ilk. Our real fight is with those voters who actually believe the lies and stupid things these guys are saying. These men are just so many actors. If they all disappeared tomorrow, there would immediately be a brand new set of names saying exactly the same things. They would also be waving the bloody shirt saying that the loss of those "fine" men shows that still more slavery is needed for the people. You kill a snake by chopping off its head, not its tail. The men in the shadows are carefully building lists with all our names, but you haven't even got a clue who they are. Their names never appear in print, their pictures never appear in the newspapers. Its not good for business. They have concentration camps ready for you, but you don't even know where to start looking for them. They just hire actors to further their plans, actors who also are there to take the fall for them should things somehow go bad. So there is old Dewey Stokes out beating the drum for gun registration to get just a few more of your names on their computer lists, and he thinks because he has served them so well that his future is set. And maybe it is ... for a while. But Dewey isn't smart enough to figure out that men capable sending millions to war and death just to maintain industry (and control), are not going to regard him as anything more than just so much pond scum. So if they need to give the order to whack Dewey and make it look like pro-gunners did it, they figure it was the least he could do for their cause. Criminals at all levels aren't much for gratitude. It seems they have fed Mr. Stokes a few tidbits about their plans to go after gun owners, so Dewey has had his kids sell their guns at the PRO show "because he loves them," meaning he is clearly more scared of our government than he is of any criminals that might break in and kill them. He doesn't understand they are all still very much in danger from the very people he trusts. Another thing all those "patriots" ready to take on the armies of the world with a few hunting rifles don't understand is the level of technology available to those in power. They can snoop your meetings by tuning-in to an ordinary light bulb. They can take pictures from miles away. They can get broadcast quality images from a fiber the size of a human hair poking through your wall. They can see you walking around inside your house with their infrared cameras and shoot you right through the walls ... just like they did in Waco. And that's not even the really advanced stuff that can turn your "mother" of all patriotic armies into a cinder in an instant. You are in real trouble, brother. So those of you who are sick of all the lies, the media shows, the crooked politicians and the rest and are saying that maybe it's time we tried a few tactics of the other side need to think a little. If you want to use the tactics of the other side then call up Dewey and join the other side! The thing that will win this for us is not guns, but rather numbers. When enough people wake up, we win. If we begin to lie and loose credibility with the public, we lose. Those in power are few and we are many. All the money in the world will do them no good when there is no one left willing to sign on and do their dirty work, no matter what they offer. History is full of example after example that evil always falls under its own weight. We are in the right and if we keep our feet firmly planted there, we will prevail. PRO deplores in the strongest possible terms any thought of premeditated violence against elected officials (or any one else for that matter). It is one thing to defend yourself against black-clad government ninja firing into your home and quite another to be the ninja assassin. The way you "take out" politicians is at the voting booth. But if there is still some gun owner out there who under the strain of all the anti-gun propaganda should feel a sudden surge of "temporary insanity" (which seems to be so prevalent today) coming over him and suddenly has the uncontrollable need to go out on the prowl looking for anti-gun politicians, for the sake of all your fellow gun-owners, we beg you to take our advice. See Mike Duve at the next PRO Gun Show and buy a length of strong nylon rope. Leave your guns at home and take your victim to a nice big tree. Anyway, it's traditional for traitors. REMEMBER THOSE WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE IN THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM ... "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!" Adolph Hitler, 1935 ...And for nine years, the world did, indeed, follow his lead. Until June 6, 1944, when Allied forces landed on the beaches of France and beat the Nazis back to Berlin. The forces of freedom fought the gun-grabbers and slayers of millions to a bloody defeat. Would over 20 million people had to have died if they had been allowed to keep their guns? Would they have been herded like cattle onto stock cars and conveyed to hard labor and death camps? One certainly hopes not. One hopes that if you have the ability to protect yourself and your family from a government run mad, that you would not docilely enter cattle cars, or shower rooms. That you would stand and say no more. As did the soldiers that landed at Normandy, France in 1944. The editors of the PROponent wish to dedicate this issue to those brave men and women that fought, died and survived World War II, and those that served on the home-front making bombs, guns airplanes and ammo, and those that sacrificed gas, sugar, nylons and grew their own vegetable gardens. Our world today owes you so much. I just hope that we don't continue to lose it, a piece at a time. ____________________________________________________________ "A person without a gun is naked, while a person without clothes is merely nude." I am willing to work on political campaigns to keep these gun bashing freaks out of government. Please send me info needed to become a member and how I can help. I am a member of the NRA and NAHC(North American Hunting Club). I am also an avid hunter, gun collector and shooter. John J. Dandera Hilliard, Ohio [Editor's note: PRO has received many notes and calls very similar to Mr. Dandera's since the May 5th vote. His was the only one with an f-word in it that we could print. But they all said the same thing.] THANKS... During the tumultuous weeks and months since the passage of the Brady Law, Davis Guns has urged it's patrons to join the NRA and PRO in her ads for her gun store in Plain City. In those same ads, she explains some of the more onerous details of the varied gun laws in Congress. The officers and members of PRO wish to extend their thanks to Sue Davis and her efforts to protect the Second Amendment. Davis' address is 150 W. Main St., State Route 161 (Main St.), Plain City, Ohio. ____________________________________________________________ 1776 Needs $25 Grand! If we were the other side and needed $25,000 or $30,000 to advertise a State House demonstration it would be easy. We would pick up the phone and call the CEO of some huge corporation (like Kroger) and instantly the money would be on the way. But we have to do it the old fashioned way: a couple of bucks at time. The Ohio Committee of 1776 is planning an all-Ohio pro-gun rally in Columbus on July 2, 1994. If this is to send the right message to legislators, we MUST turn out 20,000 or 30,000 people. *We can only do this if we can run newspaper and radio advertising announcing the rally.* Otherwise, people will not take it seriously. It is estimated that this will cost $25 or $30 thousand dollars. If we only turn out a couple of thousand at the rally, THAT will also send a message to those in the State House! *The wrong message !* What every Ohio gun owner must do ... 1. Send a few bucks to cover advertising to: PRO-1776 5 E. Long St. Suite 412 Columbus, OH 43215 2. Begin making plans right now to be in Columbus on July 2 for the rally. Bring as many pro-gun friends as you can with you. 3. Begin to think about the possibility of a road trip to Washington D.C. on August 14, for the national rally. Things have changed a lot from those days when gun owners used to say that maybe if we "compromised" on gun control they would leave us alone. Today, I hear nobody saying, "It can't happen here." If you are fed up that shotguns are now "destructive devices", that ammunition feeding devices and even parts and springs have become firearms under the law. If you are fed up with politicians saying that pistol grip and bayonet lug crime is out of control and then pass laws to ban them. *If you are NOT ready to turn in your guns to the Secretary of the Treasury and shuffle off to work the cotton fields, THEN DO 1, 2, and 3!* ____________________________________________________________ BUCKELMANIA ... Bill Buckel is a strange duck. I can say that with a certain degree of authority having worked with him for many years. Until now, Bill Buckel has been the Harold Stassen of Columbus politics ... the perennial loser. He has run over and over for the School Board and other offices and always loses ... until now when he won the Democratic primary for the privilege of running against back-stabber Pryce. "Buckelmania!" cried the Other Paper. They were clearly amused by his win. The Party leadership, however was not amused. The reason is simple: Bill Buckel does not sell out. Bill Buckel strongly believes that it is the people who are to guide the government NOT the other way around. Many PRO members have met Mr. Buckel when he campaigned at the PRO gun show for the School Board. He looks just like the librarian he is. He is not going to carry the campaign with a flourish of a dynamic personality. He is a thinker. He expects to lose every time he runs and only does it because he wants to bring certain issues to the fore. I think Bill was as startled by his win as was everyone else. PRO's PAC and individual members have always supported candidates Democrat or Republican who believe in the Bill of Rights and who can't be bought. We strongly support Bill Moss (who unfortunately lost his bid to replace the hand-picked clone of Uncle Tom, Ray Miller). We may not agree with every position Mr. Moss holds, but we don't know of anyone on any side who says that Moss is owned by anyone but himself. You can say the same about Bill Buckel. Mr. Buckel is such a non-owned politician that he won't accept money from ANY group including labor or PRO. He only accepts up to $25 from individual registered voters! He is as hardcore about registering to vote as we are! Bill Buckel only wants to owe a debt to the people, not to some powerful special interests filling their own pockets. You may say this is stupid. You may say that without big donations buying him off he can't win, but Bill doesn't [Bcare. Bill Buckel is out there to make a point about how America ought to be run, not about how Chicago-style machine politics works. I recently talked with Mr. Buckel about the campaign and he pointed out that 20% of Columbus residents visit the library each year. Wouldn't it be great, he said, if each library had a table they put out before elections where each candidate was allowed to put out literature consisting of up to 4 typewritten sheets stating their positions. He said the voters would soon figure out that the usual slick copy wasn't sufficient. Ask your local library to set this up, he said, and give voters a place to go to learn about the candidates. Against Deb Pryce his chances look slim. He won't take big money. He is for higher taxes to pay off the debt before it enslaves us all forever. He is for government by the people. He supports the Second Amendment as well as all other Rights. He expects to loose. But what choice do we have? Pryce told PRO she would never vote to ban "assault weapons" and then did. There are never any guarantees that someone you support won't ever turn on you, but the editors strongly disagree with those PRO members who are saying that there are other gun votes coming up so let's not turn from Pryce who stuck with us on "Brady." We say if your old man beats you just once, it's time to leave him. If you stay because he says he is sorry, then one day he will beat you to death. I told Mr. Buckel that PRO members can't do much but that if he can get some literature from the Democratic Party, we could probably find some people to help him hand it out. It is not certain he can get it. The party big-wigs are honked-off that their endorsed candidate lost. A letter to the editor in the May 19 Other Paper by a Democrat summed it up best. "Bill Buckel was victorious in winning the Democratic Congressional nomination and the party fat cats are livid... the party views its members as brainless stooges or a combination of the two ... Get real Franklin County Democratic hierarchy, Bill Buckel won because he is honest, he works hard, he has ideas, he doesn't sell out and he sincerely wants to improve our nation." Which, unfortunately, is also why without a lot of help from people like us, he will probably lose to the "politics as usual" candidate. NEWSLETTERS... PRO receives many newsletters from around the country each month. In return, we send ours out to many other organizations. One that we get is from the Midland County Sportsman's Club in Midland, Michigan. Usually, their newsletter is full of shooting news, membership report, treasurer's report, etc. Their April edition contained the HCI secret agenda, call your rep, Bentson bans shotguns and a state Senator introduces gun ban. We would like to say thanks to a shooting club for printing information for their members that has to do with the gun grabbers. They are not just out for my guns; they are also out for your guns. And we must all work together, or lose them separately. LAWSUIT... The survivors of the July 1, 1993, high-rise shooting in San Francisco have filed "ground-breaking" lawsuits against three gun manufacturers. Grounds for the suits were that the guns had no "legitimate purpose and are meant only to disable or kill large numbers of people very rapidly." Target shooting, plinking and self-defense are legitimate purposes. The suits seeks millions of dollars for wrongful deaths, emotional and economic losses, unfair business practices and punitive damages. The suite were filed by the CENTER TO PREVENT HANDGUN VIOLENCE OF WASHINGTON, D.C. Now, there is an un-biased group! One wonders why it only took them 11 months to talk the survivors into suing the manufacturers. Intratec of Miami, Hell-Fire Systems of Colorado, U.S.A. Magazines of Downey, California and Super Pawn, a Las Vegas chain of pawn and gun shops were named as defendants. KROGERS... Since the Kroger sponsored buy-backs in Columbus, crime has not ceased and violent crime has not decreased one iota. What is needed is education in our elementary schools about firearm safety. The NRA has developed the Eddie Eagle program to teach grade school children not to touch, leave the area and tell a responsible adult. A supply of this literature cost PRO $1,000.00. This gave us enough material to attend the WCMH (ch 4) "Partners for Peace Rally and Expo' April 30, 1994, and the Mt. Carmel Children's safety expo on June 4, 1994. PRO approached the Kroger company with several phone calls and letters asking for a donation to purchase the activity books. Kroger deemed not to reply. With just three days remaining before the event, PRO again called Kroger and talked with a M. Hrabcek. Mr. Hrabcek said that Kroger would not be interested in donating money to provide safety training to the youth of Columbus. He was asked if he would put Kroger's refusal in writing. He refused to put it in writing. Kroger has also sponsored buy-backs in Toledo, Ohio and other states. They also bribe people to purchase soccer tickets with food coupons. With over 11,000 tickets sold, they spent $110,000 to bring one of the most violent sports to Columbus. No, not violent on the field, but violent in the stands, with thousands hurt every year. Yet they could not donate $1,000.00 to educate the youth of Columbus and Franklin County in how to be safe if they find a firearm. Kroger has stated that they are good corporate citizens, but the facts clearly show a political agenda designed to keep Children's Hospital in business with bloody children who through ignorance and the callous anti-gun politics of Kroger's Supermarkets will fall victim to shooting accidents that could have easily have been prevented with a tiny fraction of the money that was spent to make "football" more European. LAST CHANCE... This is your last chance to order tickets for the first annual Central Ohio Friends of the NRA Dinner to be held June 14, 1994 at the Villa Milano at 6:00 pm til 11:00 pm. Tickets are $25.00 each and are good for a prime rib dinner. Call the PRO hotline at 614-268-0122 to order your tickets. The very last day to purchase tickets is June 9, 1994. One of the prizes to be auctioned off is a Lady Smith, number 1 of 200. All other items to be auctioned off are of similar high quality. GUN SHOWS... The next PRO-Central gun show will be June 18-19, Father's Day weekend, in Lancaster, Ohio. The next PRO show will be August 6-7 in Hilliard, Ohio. This will be a 500 table show. OHIO COMMITTEE OF 1776... The Ohio Committee of 1776 is hosting a pro-gun Rally at the Ohio Statehouse on July 2, 1994. This is in conjunction with rallies in the rest of the states. This will also be the kickoff for a National Rally to be held in Washington, D.C. on August 14, 1994. The Washington Rally will be a representative rally representing those that staged the individual state rallies. It needs to be massive to get the message across. If at all possible, plan to attend BOTH state and national events. If you wish further information, or wish to help put on a State Rally, contact the PRO Hotline at 614-268-0122. As more information is learned, we will pass it on. DAYTON... During the week of May 16, 1994, Dayton City Council passed a registration ordinance by a 5-0 vote. Very little advance notice was given concerning this ordinance. It is based on the Cleveland arsenal ordinance mentioned in previous PROponents. It also bans 20 round magazines. More on this next issue. *Salerno lit drops June 11 and 25.
