Introduction ...
Live from the Nation's capital NRA-TV
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
CCW Florida passed it in 1987, Fl homicide rate went down 22%
Only 18 Fl CCW holders had it revoked, none for murders. Dade
police chief reported no problem cases since enacted.

Oregon homicide rate went down 8% after CCW law enacted.

News segment...Ginny Simone
Live from Austin Texas CCW legislation in Texas.
^^^^
State Lawmakers at the NRA reception.
Gov. George Bush was there supporting the bill.
Police officers and Sheriffs deputies were in attendance as well.
Prospects for CCW passage in Texas look good.

Wayne LaPierre and Tanya Metaksa interview at the Tx CCW reception.
Virginia Senate passed a bill this week allowing CCW. Virginia
House is next hurdle.

Other states with active CCW reform; Arkansas, Michigan, Oklahoma.
Texas Gov and Lt Gov are supporting CCW bill. The cops seem to
be saying the problem is the criminals the justice system does
not keep in jail.

Michigan newspaper, front page on NRA ban lawsuit. Filed on
vagueness since the BATF is trying to EXPAND the law. The NRA
thinks the best winning issue is the vagueness, since this is
what a lot of lawsuits have been filed on. Newspaper was critical
that the NRA did not file a suit on the 2nd amendment. Tanya
says, you file to win with the least cost, not try and prove a
point. (hmmmm maybe, but they will be back again and again,
sooner or later we are going to have to face this issue head on)

Main story segment...Tony Makris
Marion Hammer, next NRA president.(?) She was the primary mover of
the Florida CCW law. She is lobbying for CCW nationwide. Many
states are looking at how she did it in Fl as a model for their
states. Her advice, simple laws, easy to follow, rules that are not
arbitrary. Put NO rule making authority in the laws. Same crowd
opposes the CCW laws(nothing new here). In Fl the law enforcement
groups were spilt. MEDIA is the BIGGEST enemy(no new news here).
Media uses emotional appeal to general public. Didn't work in Fl.

Arguments the Media used against CCW.
  Shoot outs in the streets.
Accidents, need training of extraordinary nature
  Shootings of police officers
A virtual parade of horrible were put forth

260,000 licenses now in FL. 18 violations of law in 6 years. Main
offense is the carrying concealed where not allowed.

Fl Criminal Justice Comm Chairman, Ron Silver Fl, major opponent
of CCW admitted on TV that he was wrong and it works in Fl.

Comments on Texas, different kinds of permits for different types
of guns...Not desirable at all. Can be a form of backdoor registration.
License the individual and let them carry any legal gun they want.

Testing levels, in Fl CCW law the individual can choose their course as
long as it is approved. This is the best way. Keep the hurdle low to
allow the average person the right to carry. Recommends using the Fl
training as a model.

Fl has instant check system which is working well.

Back at the Tx reception...
Tom Washington, NRA President, spoke with Gov Bush.

Phone Calls from viewers...
Caller:...First time owners and children should be a focus of our safety
efforts. Is the NRA getting the gun stores to push safety
Answer:...Yes, and the eddy Eagle program is being pushed.

Caller:...Mississippi has a CCW permit law. Any reciprocal agreement
among states with carry laws?
Answer:...Tanya, a few states do allow reciprocal agreements. Michigan being
 one.

Caller:...Missouri has active CCW, but the Missouri Constitution has a
prohibition.
Answer:...Texas had a similar constitutional prohibition, they changed it

Caller:...HR 666 abuses by the BATF. What can we do about it?
Answer:...Volkmer(sp) amendment to hr 666 was passed to specifically
exclude the BATF from this bill.(I reported this earlier today)

Caller:...What kind of resistance to CCW in Texas? HCI? Media?
Answer:...People of Texas are standing up and demanding the CCW law.
PEOPLE POWER is carrying the day. The media cannot overcome it.

End show...getting better and better, content going up. NRA are
definitely getting on top of things nationwide for a change. But I
think it is the PEOPLE WHO ARE ACTUALLY DOING IT. That's us folks!!!
