The 36,000 member California Medical Association's House of Delegates passed without opposition the centerpiece of the NRA's acclaimed Eddie Eagle children's gun safety program. The program's cartoon hero admonishes kids: "If you see a gun, Stop, Don't touch, Leave the area, Tell an adult". Developed by NRA Vice President Mrs. Marion Hammer, Eddie Eagle has now reached over 4.5 million pre-school through sixth grade children in 50 states. The National Safety Council awarded Mrs. Hammer its national citation for outstanding community service for creating the program. The American Academy of Pediatrics greater Los Angeles chapter has also endorsed the slogan, and the California Department of Justice incorporated Eddie's simple message in its firearm safety workbook.
