BATF Illegally Registering? BATF Special Agent Pat Hynes let the cat out of the bag on ABC Day 1, Monday night: that the bureau has computerized 60 million out-of-business gun dealer records. That's a DOUBLE NO-NO! BATF has long sought such authority, and there have been persistent rumors that they were doing such computerization despite Sec. 926 of the Gun Control Act McClure-Volkmer amendments. It prohibits "any system of registration of firearms," owners or transactions. Also, the Treasury appropriations law has for several years prohibited such computerization of records. BATF attempted to get that provision removed from this year's appropriation bill. Hynes was taking ABC host Forrest Sawyer through the old-records warehouse and said, "Right now there's 20 million records here. We've already computerized 60 million." That Day 1 program was otherwise most memorable for a copletely distortion of the history of the Second Amendment. Neal and Jay Knox and NRA E.V.P. Wayne LaPierre are to appear in a Day 1 segment recorded last month and currently scheduled for June 6.
