                    *** STATE (California) NEWS ***

It was an excellent week for the "grass roots". The following
anti-gun bills were defeated:

AB 3210 (T. Friedman) - Handgun ban and tax
AB 2706 (Caldera) - To overturn state preemption
AB 2546 (Polanco) - "Caseless" ammunition ban
AB 2517 (Umberg) - Expands the scope for criminal storage of firearms

* AB X132 (Katz) - Increased penalties for illegal carry of a
                   concealed weapon

SB 1275 (Hart) - Handgun license
SB 1276 (Hart) - Ammunition license
SB 1277 (Hart) - One gun a month
SB 1896 (Petris) - $500 fine if your gun is stolen

* SB 1278 (hart) - Domestic violence/firearm seizure
* SB X46 (Roberti) - Assault weapon list expansion

( * = Bills that were granted reconsideration. Only SB X46 is apt to
come at us again this session.)

A lot of legislators fought very hard to defend your Second Amendment
rights. There are too many to list but some should be singled out.
Two new Assemblymembers, Denise Ducheny (D-79) and James Rogan (R-43)
were true to their campaign commitments. Joe Baca (D-62) was a leader
for the pro-gun Democrats and was consistently supported by Margaret
Snyder (D-25), Sal Cannella (D-26), Tom Connolly (D-77) and Willard
Murray (D-52).

During the floor debate, Trice Harvey (R-32) and Paula Boland (R-38)
led the fight. David Knowles (R-4) gave Caldera a "body shot" during
the debate on AB 2706 that he will remember for a long time. These
members and many others deserve a "thank you" call.

You should also be very proud of the fine work done by the gun
lobbyists: Jerry Uphold (CRPA), Kathy Lynch (Gun Shows) and Jim Hearn
(GOC). These folks do an excellent job of fighting for your rights.

Next week, the fax alert will include all the anti-gun bills that are
still being considered by the Legislature and their current status.

To everyone who contacted their legislators on the above bills, THANKS
for a job WELL DONE!!
