*** FEDERAL LEGISLATION ***

SENATE AND HOUSE PASS BRADY BILL

The good news about the Brady bill is that in no more than 5 years,
the NRA-backed instant criminal background check system will be the
law of the land. The nation's gun owners owe a debt of gratitude to
Senators Bob Dole, Larry Craig, and Ted Stevens, for without their
leadership, it would not have been possible to move towards a national
instant check system.

PASADENA ATTEMPTS TO BAN SALE OF HANDGUN AMMUNITION

On November 23, the Pasadena City Council at the request of the
Police Chief, was scheduled to vote on a proposal to draft an
ordinance to ban the sale of handgun ammunition in the City. There
was a strong grass roots response and the City Council decided that
the proposal needed further study. There are rumors that they will
try again in coming weeks. To help fight this, call Joel Friedman at
(818) 405-1935.

SPECIAL ELECTION - STATE SENATE 40th DISTRICT

A special election is scheduled on December 28th for the 40th
Senate District. This will be an important election because of the
potential of adding pro-gun vote in the State Senate. NRA is
endorsing Joe Ghougassian. If you would like to get involved with
Ghougassian's campaign, call Lane Alred at (619) 420-8170.

DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE MAY ADD COLT SPORTER TO CA's ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN

On Monday, November 29, a Sacramento Superior Court rejected an NRA
backed legal challenge to the Roberti-Roos Assault Weapon Control Act.
In the near future, the court may allow the Department of Justice to
proceed with adding the Colt Sporter and other firearms to the
Roberti-Roos list. Additional details, including information on an
appeal, will be included in future editions of this news letter.

PROPOSED STATE-WIDE BAN ON HANDGUNS AND HANDGUN AMMUNITION

Assemblyman Terry Friedman (D-Los Angeles) has announced his
intention to author a bill in January which would ban the civilian
sale, transfer, use and possession of handguns. He will also propose
a similar ban on handgun ammunition. On November 29, 1993, Friedman
sent a letter to all members of the Senate and Assembly seeking
co-authors for his proposal. Please contact your Assembly member and
State Senator and encourage them to OPPOSE Friedman's proposal.

STATE-WIDE HOLLOW POINT BULLET BAN???

Our intelligence sources tell us that Senator Gary Hart (D-Santa
Barbara) will propose a bill in January to ban all hollow point
bullets. This is not confirmed but we suggest that you light up the
telephones of your elected officials.
