Subject: HOW TO USE THE EMAIL TO FAX GATEWAY
Status: R

Ok, in the simplest terms, you send plain ascii text files. Say you
wanted to send a fax to Bob Packwood, Tom Foley and Orin Hatch, you
would compose your letter and then mail it to

robert_packwood@cinnamon.com,
thomas.s.foley@cinnamon.com,
orrin_g._hatch@cinnamon.com

You would then get two bounced messages back saying that I don't have a
fax number for either Packwood or Foley. Some time later, you should
get a confirmation message back from town-hall.org saying that your
fax was successfully delivered to 1-202-224-6331.

That's the easy way to send things.

Now, to send a PostScript file, first you need to be able to either send
a MIME-compliant message or be able to add arbitrary headers to your
outgoing message. If you're a MIME dude, read your documentation and
it will tell you how to send a PostScript file. For those of us who
aren't, you need to add two header lines
	Mime-Version: 1.0
	Content-Type: application/postscript
then, the VERY FIRST line in the body of the message must be
	%!
[percent-sign, bang, newline] for it to be interpreted as PostScript and not
printed out as many pages of funny-looking text. You put the PostScript
output from your word processor on the next line after the %! line.

One guy has tried this already with his p.c.'s word processor output and the
interpreter didn't like it [it sent him a message back saying it couldn't
handle it]. I have tested it myself by using dvips from a .dvi file
generated by TeX. This worked ok.

For the PostScript dudes, I'm willing to recieve test messages, so long as
the folks at work don't complain. This means keep it short, make sure it's
addressed to me and above all, KEEP IT CLEAN. You can address my fax
machine at the office by sending your mail to andy_at_work@cinnamon.com
