[http://www.portal.com/~chan/guns/ba.classes] Here is some information about firearms safety classes taught in the San Francisco Bay Area. "BFSC" is the state-mandated Basic Firearms Safety Certificate, which is a card you must obtain before you can buy a handgun in CA. You can test out of it and get your card by taking a written test, or you can take a class then take the test. The course materials are similar to NRA's own basic safety classes since the BFSC program was developed in cooperation with NRA. NRA has been America's premier voluntary firearms safety training organization since 1871. It's probably no coincidence that accidental firearms death rates have been falling steadily since records began in 1900, even though there has been a large increase in per capita firearms ownership rates. It should be ready to go by next week. For now you can use me as the contact person and our general class announcement is attached. Thanks for the pointer and heads up, Barry. __ BAYPROFS is sponsoring a NRA Basic Pistol class at Target Masters West in Milpitas on Saturday 12/August. The object of the class is to teach basic pistol safety and marksmanship skills This is an all day class that concludes with range time. It is estimated that half of the homes in America own guns and that there are 180 to 200 million guns nation wide. Sixty million of these guns are handguns. They are used in many recreational activities, such as competitive target shooting, and for self defense. The object of the Basic Pistol Course is to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe and proper use of a pistol in shooting a stationary target. The course includes training on gun parts and operation, ammunition, safety, cleaning, storage loading procedures, shooting fundamentals and pistol sports and activities. This course utilizes the concept of discovery learning, i.e., hands-on learning. Lesson 1, for example, has a safe gun handling practical exercise. This hands-on activity is designed to reinforce the student's learning experience. Students participate in range firing exercises under the supervision of instructors. Cost is $20.00 to cover class materials and text; range time, ammunition and pistol rental, if required, are extra. Pistol rental and ammunition are available at Target Masters. To register for the class please call BAYPROFS at (408) 741-5218.
