This investigation uncovered that a private attorney with ties to your organization is helping coordinate the Clinton Administration's response to these hearings. Namely, Mr. John Podesta, who the _Washington Post_ referred to as the Administration's "damage control czar," had been retained by your organization. In my announcement, I called upon Chairman Zeliff and McCollum to subpoena evidence and testimony relating to this potential conspiracy. My Civil Service Subcommittee may investigate this matter if we find that Federal government employees participated in an attempt to influence an ongoing congressional hearing. In anticipation of such an investigation, I request that you take all necessary steps to ensure that no documents relevant to this inquiry be destroyed. I would expect your full cooperation in this matter. Sincerely, (signed) John L. Mica Chairman Subcommittee on Civil Service cc: Hon. William F. Clinger, Jr. Hon. Cardiss Collins Hon. William H.
