Date: Mon, 26 Jun 1995 11:54:04 -0400 From: Chris Ferris Subject: The UN-Gunning of San Francisco In case you missed the broadcast, National Public Radio was interviewing sculptor Bruce Hassan (sp?) this past weekend. Hassan had forged a bell from 500 lbs of confiscated guns to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. The bell is on display at a Veterans' War Memorial Building in S.F. through the end of this month. The interviewer and the sculptor engaged in a duel to see which one of them could moan the most about the fact that "guns" were a "problem" ... typical NPR propaganda. Why didn't the S.F.P.D., thru local FFL dealers, offer some of functioning guns and *free* safety training to elderly, impoverished residents of S.F. who have been terrified of home invaders but who, due to fixed incomes, can't spring for a 20 gauge or a .22 rifle without sacrificing many meals in the process? (Fat chance, but I felt like asking!)
