Subject: Hewlett-Packard Company ? Anti GUN ????

Hewlett-Packard was listed on the Invitation for the "HCI Fundraiser", at St
Frances Hotel in San Fransico, CA to be held 6/29/95, as a BENEFACTOR.

I called HP on several occaisions this week and after the typical run around
finding the "Right" person, I spoke to a Ms. Mary Ann Easley. Ms Easley
stated that yes in fact the legal department within HP made a contribution to
another law office as a memorial fund for those involved in the shooting last
year. Ms Easley stated several times emphatically that the Hewlett-Packard
Company does NOT take ANY stand on guns, for or against...

For those wishing to confirm the information I recieved (I hope someone
will), The Phone number that put me in touch with Ms Mary Ann Easley is (415)
857-3137.

I wonder if HCI used the "Memorial Fund" as a ploy to raise funds??? (Is this
legal?)

Maybe someone could convince these same people to contribute to "Fund for
those unable to defend themselves because of bad gun laws???"

Subject: ANTIS: HP support of HCI

The Correct number for Mary Anne Easley is (415) 857-7298

She is a professional PR person so don't expect much when
you call. She gave me the same line others have repeated
(that support was a decision from their lawyers to another
group of lawyers, blah blah blah), that the contributiion was
over $1500 and that HP will not print any kind of retraction.
I asked her if she was aware that 50% of the money, which
goes to HCI, is not tax deductible because HCI uses the
money for political lobbying and she agreed. I asked to talk
to her boss and her bosses boss and the head of the legal
department who made the contribution but she would not
cooperate. She agreed that it could appear that HP was
supporting HCI, but said that they do not take a position
on handgun control.

In short, don't waste your time with her & don't post to the
list unless you get info from some one above her that we
can use to change HP's position.

I just spoke with Mary Ann today, and she told me that the use of the
HP corporate logo by HCI was WITH HP APPROVAL. I even asked her twice to
make sure I got it right. So, it looks like HP is no longer sitting on
the fence, but is truly supporting HCI.
