Date: Fri, 13 May 1994 16:21:34 +0800 From: Edward Turner To: ca-firearms Subject: Seastrand for Congress Yesterday, I called Congressman Bill Baker's office to thank him for his opposition to the AW ban and offered to support his future campaign. When I got home last night, I had a message from Baker asking me to call him back in Washington. I called back this morning. He wasn't there, but the office gave me his home number. I got through to him at his home. We talked about the heat he was taking because of his vote on the AW ban. But the reason he had called back was to try to raise support for Andrea Seastrand who is running in the Republican primary for the congressional seat Huffington is vacating in the 22sd district. This is the Santa Barbara - San Luis Obispo area. Seastrand is presently in the California Assembly. Baker says that she is a strong pro-RKBA candidate. He believes that Seastrand can win this election with 30-40k votes. If she wins, she would be the only Republican woman in the California delegation. And Baker asked me to send Seastrand any contribution I might have otherwise made to him. I then called John Stoos at Gun Owners of California. He says Seastrand is rated 100% on the firearms issue and is the candidate they have endorsed in this election. This is an election that can be won "on the margin". It's an opportunity to replace Huffington with a strong pro-RKBA Congresswoman. As the only woman in the Ca. Republican delegation, she would be positioned to take a leadership role. And she would be speaking for us! And it sure wouldn't hurt if she believed it was the gun owners who put her over the top. So... I called Seastrand's campaign headquarters and told them I would put this information out on the net and asked if we might be able to assist them in other ways. They immediately asked for money and if we could mobilize people to attend a rally. They are going to get back to me with other requests. The NRA and GOC are hosting a membership meeting in Santa Barbara next Tuesday, May 17. Seastrand will be there as will other local area candidates endorsed by NRA and GOC. Details are below. Do we have people on this list in the Santa Barbara-San Luis Obispo area who could attend this meeting? Do we have people who would be willing to work in her campaign? Would we be willing to conduct a mailing party for Seastrand? Is this one we can rally behind? (We could sure use a win now.) Her primary is June 7. The primary winner will win the general election. So, the fuse is short. If we help, we have to act fast. What do you all think? Ed Details on the meeting: Date: Tuesday, May 17 Time: Check-in at 6:30 pm. Meeting starts at 7:00 pm.
