[ftp://ftp.shell.portal.com/pub/chan/action/mediatel] Another way to get letters to Congress is to use a professional fax broadcasting service. Many are avilable. I've made arrangements with one called "Mediatel" which I have no connection with except as a customer. Their hq is in San Francisco, but their fax hardware & some offices seem to be in the midwest. I have 4 lists there: 1. Crime Bill Conference Committee 2. Full U.S. Congress 3. Full U.S. House of Reps 4. Full U.S. Senate that I can make available to you. You must contact me so I can release them to you & you must refer to them by list #. Mediatel has a pretty good DOS program for maintaining fax lists & sending faxes (from a variety of PC file formats), or you can broadcast by faxing your order or voice calling someone there. You must set up an individual account with your own billing (mine is guaranteed with a credit card), but there is no cost other than successful calls, which are charged at 19 cents per minute for the off-peak (overnight) rate. Be sure to specify the off-peak service when you order unless you're in a real hurry. 19 cents is about double the basic discounted long distance phone rate of around 9-10 cents per minute. So the cost to fax all of Congress would be around $100. Yes you can do it from your own PC if you don't mind tying up your phone & pc for several hours and don't mind wrangling with missed numbers and fax quirks. Using a service means the broadcast takes place on their professional hardware. Contact Margaret Demorest of Mediatel at (800) 800-4946 to sign up. Unless you want to set up a regular account with them (establishing a regular business credit history), mention to Margaret that you want to charge to your credit card at the time you fax, then call them before you fax. Also email me so I can release my lists to you.
