Suter" Subject: Re: RESEARCH: Suter vs Kellerman home invastion study (fwd) The _pattern_ of Kellermann's [two n's] research consistently skews methodology to undercount the protective uses of guns and to exaggerate the misuse of guns. [see my article "Guns in the Medical Literature - A Failure of Peer Review] He has explicitly described the honest measure of the protective benefits of guns, but has always used other methods. Even when his own data show benefits of guns, his discussion always avoids acknowledgment of such (e.g. when _none_ of the gun defenders in his recent "study" were injured, Kellermann claimed the implications of this were "unclear," despite considerable evidence [that Kellermann ignores or denies] that guns are the safest and most effective means of protection). Additionally, Kellermann has acknowledged his emotional prejudice at the Handgun Epidemic Lowering Program (HELP) convocation October '92, a strategy planning session "to make is socially unacceptable to own handguns." So... his flaws, discussion, and methodology all skew towards his political goal. I believe that makes an irrefutable case that his research is "politicized." --- and he wastes our tax money to do it.
