SB 1896 (Petris) Was passed by the Senate Appropriations Committee
on a 7-5 vote.  Voting NO were Senators Robert Presley, Henry
Mello, David Kelley, Bill Leonard and Robert Beverly.  Please call
and thank them for their support.

The next vote will be by the full Senate.  As amended the bill does
the following:
     
*    Prohibit persons between the ages of 18 and 21 who do not live
     with their parents, or if their parents are not home, from
     possessing a concealable firearm.  Since tens of thousands of
     people in this age group already possess concealable firearms,
     they would have to dispose of them or become a criminal.

*    Requires that all firearms be secured in a safe or by
     cable/chain to the residence.  If your gun(s) were stolen and
     weren't properly secured, you would be subject to a $500 fine. 
     That's right, you will be punished if a criminal steals your
     firearm.

It is essential that you contact your Senator IMMEDIATELY and urge
a NO vote on SB 1896.
