The Clinton response thus far: silence Washington, D.C. -- President Bill Clinton, Attorney General Janet Reno and Senator Dianne Feinstein claim there's a substantive difference between the guns the President wants to ban -- and the guns Clinton and other Americans hunt with. "Come to the shooting range at high noon on Wednesday and prove it," said Wayne R. LaPierre, Jr., Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association of America, yesterday on Meet the Press. The Administration's response thus far: utter silence. "They won't come, because they can't prove it," LaPierre said. "Bill Clinton is running from the truth," charged LaPierre. "He's probably stumbled on someone who really knows firearms, and they've told him, Bill, you'll lose.' "The good' guns they claim to want to protect and the bad' guns they want to ban all fire the same," LaPierre said. "They won't spray bullets, won't fire faster, aren't more powerful, won't make bigger holes -- and they're not the criminal's weapon of choice. "Gun bans are pretend crime control," LaPierre continued. "Gun ban zealots are worried that the American public, fed up with cosmetic approaches to crime control, will discern the truth. Americans know a hoax when they see one. At the shooting range, we'll prove the Clinton gun ban to be just that -- a hoax. "If the Clinton Administration believes that the facts are on their side, they will meet the NRA at the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club," LaPierre said. "They can bring the government's best marksmen and the guns they deem as evil.' We will prove to the Congress, the media and the American people that the guns Clinton want to ban aren't more powerful, don't fire faster and won't make bigger holes than the guns he claims he wants to protect. "Meet the NRA Wednesday at High Noon on the shooting range," LaPierre called on the Administration. "Your fiction versus the facts. If you're right, prove it -- or have the guts to admit up-front that your gun ban is just a fraud on the American people." If the Administration continues to duck the challenge, NRA will proceed to demonstrate the facts to the press in Fairfax, Virginia, at noon Wednesday. - nra - Location: Fairfax Rod & Gun Club.
