Assembly Bill 1818 (requiring all semi-automatic pistols made in California be equipped with a loaded chamber indicator) was also killed on a 18-21 vote. Thank you to all who flooded legislator's offices with phone calls and letters in opposition to these failed gun control schemes. Last night, three major anti-gun bills. SB X46 (Roberti), SB 1128 (Roberti) and AB 1818 (Gotch) were defeated in the California Legislature. It was a powerful collision involving our grass roots forces with those of Handgun Control, Inc., the California Medical Association and some police groups. When the dust cleared, we owned the field. Senator Roberti's last and most draconian attack on your Second Amendment rights was defeated because you and other grass roots activists got involved. The "unofficial" vote counts are as follows: ASSEMBLY: SB X46 (Roberti) - the generic assault weapon ban expansion (37 Aye, 41 No and 2 Not Voting). SB 1128 (Roberti) - high capacity magazine ban (36 Aye, 38 No and 6 Not Voting). SENATE: AB 1818 (Gotch) - handgun product liability (18 Aye and 21 No). The results are "unofficial" because of an electrical problem with the legislature's vote tracking system. Tomorrow, we will distribute the final vote count and the roll call. A lot of legislators did a superb job in defense of your gun rights. Assembly Members Trice Harvey (R-Bakersfield) and Joe Baca (D-Rialto) were the leaders of their respective parties and deserve special credit. Without their help and leadership, victory might not have been possible. When you get the roll call tomorrow, please call and thank those who supported us. There is national significance in the votes on Roberti's bills. The California legislature has now rejected two key elements of the Feinstein Assault Weapon Ban -- generic descriptions and magazine capacity limits. Do you think the mainstream media will report on this? So far, they have not! Two bills, AB 1333 (Gotch) and AB 645 (Allen), were approved in spite of our opposition. AB 1333 requires that law enforcement destroy seized firearms and AB 645 makes it a felony to illegally possess a firearm within 1,000 feed of a school (Grades K-12). Next week, we will provide you with a detailed description of the bills and the dynamics surrounding their approval. ====================================================================== -- ************************************************************ * Ron Phillips crphilli@ingr.com * * Senior Customer Application Engineer * * Intergraph Electronics * * 381 East Evelyn Avenue VOICE: (415) 691-6473 * * Mountain View, CA 94041 FAX: (415) 691-0350 * ************************************************************
