The deadline for consideration of bills will be August 31. Two of Roberti's bills -- SB X46 (the state equivalent of the Feinstein/Schumer gun ban) and SB 1128 (the high capacity magazine ban; this bill could be brought up on the Assembly floor at any time) -- will be before the Assembly. It is critical that you call and urge your Assembly Member to oppose Senator Roberti's idea of "crime control." Four anti-gun bills were killed in the Assembly Ways & Means Committee last week: AB X23 (Eastin) would have extended handgun controls to long guns AB X24 (Eastin) would have imposed a $50 tax on each firearm and a $.05 tax on each cartridge sold in the state AB X120 (Speier) would have committed $25 million from the general fund for a gun "buy back" program AB X121 (Speier) would have put the above gun "buy back" program on the ballot as a bond issue The last three of these bills have been granted reconsideration. Two bills did not come up for consideration on the Assembly Floor before the legislature recessed: AB X132 (Katz) would increase the penalty for illegal concealed carry AB X37 (W. Brown) would repeal state preemption for firearms laws SB 822 (Hayden), requiring the destruction of seized firearms, was not considered by the Assembly Ways & Means Committee.
