There was a strong grass roots response and the City Council decided that the proposal needed further study. There are rumors that they will try again in coming weeks. To help fight this, call Joel Friedman at (818) 405-1935. SPECIAL ELECTION - STATE SENATE 40th DISTRICT A special election is scheduled on December 28th for the 40th Senate District. This will be an important election because of the potential of adding pro-gun vote in the State Senate. NRA is endorsing Joe Ghougassian. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE MAY ADD COLT SPORTER TO CA's ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN On Monday, November 29, a Sacramento Superior Court rejected an NRA backed legal challenge to the Roberti-Roos Assault Weapon Control Act. In the near future, the court may allow the Department of Justice to proceed with adding the Colt Sporter and other firearms to the Roberti-Roos list. Additional details, including information on an appeal, will be included in future editions of this news letter. PROPOSED STATE-WIDE BAN ON HANDGUNS AND HANDGUN AMMUNITION Assemblyman Terry Friedman (D-Los Angeles) has announced his intention to author a bill in January which would ban the civilian sale, transfer, use and possession of handguns. He will also propose a similar ban on handgun ammunition. On November 29, 1993, Friedman sent a letter to all members of the Senate and Assembly seeking co-authors for his proposal. Please contact your Assembly member and State Senator and encourage them to OPPOSE Friedman's proposal. STATE-WIDE HOLLOW POINT BULLET BAN??? Our intelligence sources tell us that Senator Gary Hart (D-Santa Barbara) will propose a bill in January to ban all hollow point bullets.
