All deals between Democrats and Republicans have fallen through and so the Senate will mostly likely vote today on a Budget Act "point of order" -- that is, a vote on whether the crime bill exceeds budget guidelines. If the "point of order" gets 41 votes, the Democratic leadership would need to muster 60 votes to be able to continue consideration of the current crime bill. It would also seriously cripple the crime bill's ability to pass in the near future -- and perhaps, it's ability to pass this year. For this reason, we need a final blitz on the swing legislators in the Senate. Don't delay; please call right away. ACTION ITEM: * Call the senators in your state and urge them to support the budget "point of order." The Democrats listed below have voted pro-gun in the past. Tell them that a vote against the "point of order" will be considered by you as a vote for pork and a vote to restrict your gun rights. Call toll free at 1-800-768-2221. * Impress upon these Democratic senators that the bill will ban more than just 19 guns -- it will actually ban more than 180 shotguns and rifles. And the magazine ban will cover all magazines over 10 rounds -- thus affecting many handguns as well. * The Senate is being deluged with calls. Please be persistent. You must get through one last time to your Senators before the vote. All phone and fax numbers begin with "202-224" (except for Ford). Senator Phone / Fax AL - Heflin 4-4124 / 4-3149 AL - Shelby 4-5744 / 4-3416 CO - Campbell 4-5852 / 4-1933 KY - Ford 4-4343/456-2461 LA - Breaux 4-4623 / 4-4268 LA - Johnston 4-5824 / 4-2952 MT - Baucus 4-2651 / 4-1974 ND - Dorgan 4-2551 / 4-1193 NV - Reid 4-3542 / 4-7327 The following Republicans are undecided: * Kansas residents: call Sen. Kassebaum (ph: 202-224-4774 / fax: 4-3514) and urge her to support the "point of order." She's anti-gun, so stress to her that a vote against the "point of order" is a vote for pork. * Rhode Island residents: call Sen. Chafee (ph: 202-224-2921) with the same message as above. * Missouri residents: call Sen. Danforth (ph: 202-224-6154 ) and urge him to vote for the "point of order." He has voted pro-gun in the past, so tell him that a vote against the "point of order" is a vote for pork and a vote to restrict your gun rights. Remember, you can also call your Senators toll free at 1-800-768-2221.
