The major thrust of the legislation is to ban specific semi-automatic assault rifles and pistols as well as revolving cylinder shotguns (such as the Striker 12) and other firearms which possess certain characteristics. There is also a magazine capacity limitation of 10 rounds which "grandfathers" existing magazines and exempts .22 rimfire ammunition. An excerpt from the amendment is attached for your information. Please note this is a discussion draft and may not reflect final language. Press or congressional inquiries which go beyond a request for ATF's position on this legislation should be directed to this office. (signed) James O.
