From: Jonathan70@aol.com Date: Sat, 17 Jun 1995 18:49:41 -0400 To: ca-liberty@shell.portal.com Subject: Boxer & Feinstein Vote for Internet Censorship Amendment To Californians whom it may concern: Both of California's senators, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, reportedly voted in favor of Senator Exon's amendment to the Telecommunications Bill, known as the CDA or Communications Decency ACt, which provides for stiff fines and jail sentences for those who would "knowingly" post "indecent" messages on the Internet which might be read by persons under the age of 18. According to Libertarian Party Chair Steve Dasbach (Libernet Digest V106 #16). "This bill is censorship -- an effort by politicians to restrict the freedom of the electronic press. As such, it is a clear violation of the First Amendment. Free speech is free speech, whether it is distributed via an 18th-century printing press or a 20th-century modem."
