(CRPA). This is a transcript from a broadcast made on the "It's not about Guns,. . .It's about Freedom" radio show on KIEV 870 A.M. (Glendale, CA). Broadcasted each Tuesday night from 8:30 P.M. to 10:30 P.M. Typing errors are my own. My own comments in []. ***********Beginning of Article******* Good evening, this is Gerald Upholt, Manager of Governmental Affairs for the California Rifle and Pistol Association with a "Legislative Watch" report on activities in the state capitol. Today, the Assembly Public Safety Committee passed a bill containing concealed weapon permit issuing reforms authored by Republican Assemblyman Pete Knight of Palmdale. The Bill, AB 638, is sponsored by the California Rifle and Pistol Association, and is supported by a broad array of organizations and individuals who believe in the right of lawful individuals to protect themselves, their families and their property from criminal attack. Under the provisions of AB 638, any California resident who is at least 21 years of age, who is not in a class of persons lawfully prohibited from possessing firearms, such as convicted felons and the mentally ill, and who completes firearms and safety training must be issued a concealed weapons permit if they apply for one. Opposition to AB 638 comes primarily from police chiefs and sheriffs who do not agree with any concealed weapon permit issuing reform that lessens their current absolute control over determining who can receive a permit. [This is a perfect example of "Police corruption" in action.] Nationwide, 22 states have adopted concealed weapon permit issuing reform legislation that is similar to AB 638, and others are considering it. The vote on Assemblyman Knight's bill was along partisan lines with all Republicans on the Public Safety Committee voting in support of AB 638 and all Democrats voting "no." This is the firest time that a significant concealed weapons permit issuing reform bill has ever been passed by a legislative committee in California. Those who cherish their right of self-defense owe a debt of gratitude to Assemblyman Pete Knight. [And to all of those assembly types who supported this legislation.] Please tune in next week for another update on legislative actions in the state capitol.
