Senator Orin Hatch intervened, saving the day for all, negotiating with the agency to persuade them to settle for a copy of the tape, instead of the original. Hatch's efforts were successful, and Randall turned over a copy of the now-infamous tape. Senator Hatch should be commended for his part in this. You can call him at (202) 224-5251. When you call, just tell whomever answers the telephone that you are calling in reference to the Jeff Randall affair, and they will immediately transfer your call to the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. ************************************** Carlos Hathcock, the famed Viet Nam Era Marine Sniper, has MS. The MS, combined with his war injuries, has put a heavy financial burden on him and his family. A number of pro-gun groups have decided to do something to help Carlos defray his medical expenses. Carlos Hathcock's Last Rifle Archie Mayer, Carlos' close friend, has produced a custom built rifle made to specs for a Viet Nam Era Marine Sniper rifle. The Remington 700 rifle in 7.62 NATO, equipped with a Redfield Sniper Scope, is a reproduction of the rifle used by the Gunny in Viet Nam. Carlos worked closely with Archie as the rifle was being built, to ensure it would be an exact reproduction. The rifle differs from the original in only one important way: This rifle has a silver inlaid "White Feather" on the stock; with Carlos Hathcock's signature engraved in the silver. Included in the package are the standard rifle accessories, AND one of only three hardbound copies of the book "Marine Sniper", the story of Carlos Hathcock. This historic firearm, literally Carlos Hathcock's last rifle, will be awarded by raffle at a drawing to be held December 15, 1995. Raffle tickets are $2.00 each (donation) and may be obtained by writing to: Carlos Hathcock Fund 18759 Fuller Heights Road Triangle, VA 22172 703-221-3030. (You may also contact us at Armed and Safe, if you prefer.) Carlos Hathcock Jr. confirmed this raffle while competing at Quantico this past June. Carlos Jr. placed well at the shoot even though Army beat the Marine team. (Rah-rah. It's tough to root for the Army schutzen-team in a Marine/Navy town, but I manage, thank you. -ecr) ************************************** The portions of the following which appear in parentheses are my comments. My comments will always end with -ecr. ************************************** Those of you reading this on internet in rec.guns can tune in to talk.politics.guns (t.p.g.) to get the following California bill information.
