To increase consumer awareness and expand the knowledge base about the problem, NCJRS created the new special emphasis area "Youth Violence and Guns" for information collection and dissemination, NCJRS staff are available to answer information requests, disseminate relevant publications, and collect additional information on this topic. This new data will be added to the current data base entries on youth violence and guns. Examples of OJP agency publications include: - Research in Brief "Gun Acquisitions and Possession in Selected Juvenile Samples," published by NIJ and OJJDP - Fact Sheet "Juveniles and Violence: Juvenile Offending and Victimization," (includes data from BJS and the FBI) - BJS Special Report "Murder in Families" - BJA Bulletin "Partnerships to Prevent Youth Violence" - NIJ Update "Weapon-Related Victimization in Selected Inner-City High School Samples" In addition to the dissemination of publications, NCJRS is increasing referrals made to other clearinghouses and programs that also provide information on "Youth Violence and Guns." Examples of referrals include: - Center for the Study of Prevention of Violence - Children's Defense Fund - Violence Policy Center - Children's Safety Network - National School Safety Center - Center to Prevent Handgun Violence Specific program resources focused on "Youth Violence and Guns" include the promising programs section from "Partnerships Against Violence Network (PAVNET) and "What Works: Promising Interventions in Juvenile Justice."
