Support (and urge others to support) President Clinton's demand that the National Rifle Association prove the sincerity of its apology for a controversial fundraising letter by giving the money to families of slain police officers. The NRA outraged the President and former President Bush by calling federal agents ``jack-booted government thugs'' in an appeal for funds. 2. Contact your representatives and senators in Washington and tell them to cut all ties with the NRA until the funds have been donated. Mention President Bush's courageous letter of resignation. All Republican candidates should follow suit until the ill-gotten NRA money is donated to families of slain police officers. 3. In Guns and Ammo magazine, Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) accused President Clinton of orchestrating the 1993 raid on the Branch Davidians' compound in Waco to get support for the assault weapons ban. Stockman also said the President and Janet Reno should be indicted for murder in the Waco incident. Call or write your congressional representative and Speaker Gingrich and urge them to speak out against the extremist rhetoric of Rep. Stockman. 4. The Secret Service has recently uncovered 11 conspiracies on the Internet to assassinate President Clinton, according to the Washington Times (5/14/95). Monitor online discussions/debates about firearms, militias, bomb-making or assassination. These can be located by doing a "key word search" in the Internet section of your online subscription service (ex: the usenet group rec.guns). Contact the Secret Service field office in your region, listed in the telephone book under the U.S. Treasury Dept. Or call the Secret Service in Washington at 202-435-5000. 5.Call Pizza Hut at 1-800-358-2222. It is monitoring public response to its decision to feature Rush Limbaugh in a commercial. Limbaugh has routinely compared the Clinton Administration to the regime in Iran, and shortly before the Oklahoma bombing, he asserted that a "violent revolution" is imminent, in rebellion against the government. Limbaugh promotes Pizza Hut on his show. You can also write to Pizza Hut, Consumer Affairs, 2100 Powers Ferry Road, Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30339-5014. 6. Send a fax to local or regional radio stations that feature extremist talk-show hosts. Citizens in California recently sent a barrage of faxes to a local radio station and convinced the station to drop Watergate felon G. Gordon Liddy from their programming. 7. If you oppose gun control, you can be especially effective in adding your voice to appeals to tone down extremist rhetoric. Democrats for the Second Amendment try to take a reasoned approach to this issue. For more information, contact donb@worf.infonet.net.
