From: "Val W. Finnell, MD" To: firearms-alert@shell.portal.com Date: Sat, 28 Oct 1995 15:27:12 +0000 Subject: DC: Operation Ceasefire The Gun Gestapo in Washington, DC is claiming success for their four- month-old campaign to get guns off the street. The Washington Post reports that: "...the gun squads seized 282 firearms during the four months, including 127 pistols, 62 revolvers, 10 rifles, and 16 shotguns. The weapons seized were largely 9mms, 380 automatics, .38 caliber and .25 caliber, and of those whose origins could be traced, most were bought in Maryland and Virginia.." (Washington Post October 26, 1995) How did they accomplish this you may ask? The DC police are targeting "areas where there have been violent crimes." Apparently, the police use a *profile* entitled "Identifying Characteristics of the Armed Gunman." Although no details were offered, it seems as though officers are searching people who fit the "profile." DC is also planning on changing the law to seize cars in which illegal guns are found, and also changing the offense of carrying an unregistered firearm from a misdemeanor to a felony. Furthermore, this program is FEDERALLY FUNDED with our tax dollars. I stongly urge all to contact their U.S. Senators and Rpresentatives about this outrage. Let them know that you oppose the using of your tax dollars to fund unconstitutional searches and seizures. Tell them that you support everyone's 2nd Amendment rights, regardless of where they may live. I have included the address and fax number of the Washington Times ( a largely conservative newspaper) for those interested in writing a letter to the editor (The Times also carried an article on the subject): Letters to the Editor The Washington Times 3600 New York Ave., NE Washington, DC 20002 fax: (202) 832-0659 ******************************************************************************* Val W.
