Two months ago, the NRA Members' Council of Fairfield/Suisun was contacted by Doug Milender (Fairfield, CA Chief of Police) to see if we offered any sort of "home firearm safety course". We offered no such course at the time, but that has changed! Since our initial meeting with the Fairfield Chief of Police, we have coordinated with the NRA to purchase all needed materials for providing instruction in this area; we have provided sample copies to the Chief for his inspection; we have secured volunteers who are willing to provide instruction; and we have arrainged to offer this program though the Community Services division of the City of Fairfield, California. On Saturday, June 10, 1995, Keith Hawkes will come to our community to provide Instructor Certification for our volunteers. Local gun stores have agreed to sponsor this class by providing range-time, ammuntion, firearms, classroom, and tv/video equipment. This class is already full, and there was no need to advertise. Word of mouth was all that was needed to make this project a success! Due to our involvement in the local community, and the friendly relationship that we have been able to build with local law-enforcement, a local Chief of Police has contacted an NRA Members' Council for the purpose of implementing a Home Firearms Safety program into his city. Our thanks goes out to the many people who have assisted in making this project a success! Grassroots in ACTION! Peter D. Nesbitt President NRA Members' Council of Fairfield/Suisun P.O.
