Date: 24 May 1995 14:59:49 -0700 From: "Johann Opitz" Subject: CA RKBA Rally - Speaker Lis To: "Firearms Alert" 1995 2nd Amendment Rally Sacramento, California "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." --Thomas Jefferson Meet with concerned citizens on the steps of the State Capitol in Sacramento and offer your support for the RIGHT to keep and bear arms. ------------------------------------------------------------------ DATE: Saturday, July 1, 1995 TIME: Booths and exhibits at 9:00 a.m. Special Guest Speakers at 1:00 p.m. WHERE: West Steps of the Capitol Building Sacramento, California DRESS: Clean, cool, and casual. NO CAMMIES, PLEASE! CONTACT: Peter Nesbitt Chairman 1995 2nd Amendment Rally Committee P.O. Box 1171 Suisun, CA 94585 707-429-2871 (voice) 707-427-1310 (fax) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Confirmed Speakers: Suzanna Gratia Suzanna Gratia, currently very hot with media and politicians alike, is the woman who survived George Hennard's rampage in Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, but not before she saw both her parents murdered along with more than 20 others. She could have stopped Hennard a few times, but fearing loss of her license to practice chiropractic if caught, she'd left her gun in the car. She is most articulate and delivers her highly emotional story with dignity and poise. She will be our headline speaker. Sheriff Rob Heard Sheriff Rob Heard has been on the streets as a LEO for nearly 20 years, and is the newly-elected Sheriff in Tehama County. He is as staunch an RKBAer as they come, and also dislikes federal meddling in state and local law enforcement affairs. He will be an outstanding speaker that will have the crowd cheering at his message. Chief Eugene Byrd Chief Eugene Byrd was unable to speak at last year's Rally (I mentioned him in my remarks: the LEO who couldn't be there for fear of retribution by the local Sheriff). Since then his persecution by Sheriff Glen Craig has been in the news many times. It is now Craig who is on the ropes -- both legally and politically -- and Chief Byrd is still down in Isleton busily issuing CCWs to any qualified resident of Sacramento County. He is enormously popular in Sacramento, and is quite well known all around California as well. Senator Maurice Johannessen Senator Maurice Johannessen is a popular California Senator who was very well received at last year's Rally, and will be as much so this year. He is very pro-gun and continues to bring good RKBA bills. Assemblyman Pete Knight and Senator Richard Monteith Assemblyman Pete Knight and Senator Richard Monteith are the authors of reciprocal bills know jointly as the Citizen's Self-Protection Act, which is essentially a bill to modify existing CCW law to virtually duplicate the Florida CCW law. Senator (Ret) HL Richardson Senator (Ret) HL Richardson is a marvelously funny and articulate man who will have the crowd delighted before he's halfway through his remarks. Not only is he head of Gun Owners of California, he is responsible for several of the better gun laws in California. Officer Mark Tyndale Officer Mark Tyndale spoke at last year's Rally. He was running for Sheriff of Sacramento County then, and will be doing so again when Glen Craig is on his way out, which could be soon. Rebecca Johns Rebecca Johns is the founder of SWARM in Colorado and now in many other states as well. She is an excellent spokesperson for women's gun rights and will be well received by the crowd. J. Neil Schulman J. Neil Schulman is the award-winning author of science fiction books and stories, as well as "Stopping Power". He will have some very interesting things to say as well. Jim Fotis or Richard Beckman (LEAA) Jim Fotis or Richard Beckman (LEAA) will be there to speak about various political things LEAA is doing. Peter Alan Kasler, JD Peter Alan Kasler will likely speak about some of the political activity that is generating considerable interest these days. As Legal Advisor to Gun Owners of California he will bring much Legislative information and updates to the crowd. As lead plaintiff (along with "Gun Week" and the Second Amendment Foundation) in the litigation against Sheriff Glen Craig, as well as Chief Byrd's Legal Advisor, CCW Expert, and DOJ and news media liaison, he will update that very controversial and active matter. As the lead negotiator in the lawsuit against Chief Willie Williams and the LAPD, as well as the first appointee to the LAPD CCW Advisory Panel, he will explain the Judge's order in that case and how this enormous victory will effect all Californian's who want CCWs. And as an LEO who works for a Sheriff, but has sued another Sheriff, and who works for a Police Chief but has been instrumental in engineering a major legal defeat of another Police Chief, and as co-author (with Dr. Edgar Suter) of the major paper that rebuts the California Police Chiefs Association anti-gun hit piece, he will talk about good cops vs. bad cops, and how we're working to destroy the "them-and-us" mentality that is angering so many good citizens in today's society. ===== Invited - but unconfirmed - Speakers: Ken Hamblin G.
